The Braves and the Unsung Heroes
The Pharmaceutical Companies are evil, greedy, cold-hearted, sneaky, clandestine, and rotten. They don’t care about anything other than the bottom-line. Nothing good ever comes out of the pharma companies. They are responsible for most of what’s wrong with the healthcare of the society.
If you consume news (and I don’t), that’s pretty much the gist of what the pharma industry stands for. But occasionally, if you pay attention and connect the dots, a story emerges where for the briefest period, the light is shone through the cacophonous filter just long enough to let us know the other side of the story.
However, this is not about the pharma companies. This is about Sabrina – from Colorado. She’s a breast cancer survivor, a loving wife and mother of two gorgeous boys. She went through chemo and all that and still came out of it with a smile that can melt an iceberg. She is brave, to say the least. I have never met Sabrina and it’s unlikely that I ever will. I only know her through her Instagram posts.
I know few cancer survivors, and maybe you do too. It takes a lot to beat cancer – positive attitude, supporting family, divine doctors and nurses, iron will, and effective medicines. In the whole healthcare picture, the only people you never meet are the pharma workers who developed and made the medicines. You meet the doctors and nurses, but never all those scientists who developed the treatment not knowing or caring who’ll benefit from it, the analysts who analyzed the samples, the engineers who made it possible to manufacture it at large scale, the countless people who show up every day to do seemingly mundane and non-technical activities and the leadership who deemed it worthwhile to invest in it.
Here’s me raising a toast to Sabrina and wishing her a long and healthy life. May you live long enough to continue your life journey with your loving husband, may you witness your sons’ graduation, marriage and help them raise their kids, and may you continue to spread that million watts smile of yours that doesn’t need any interpretation. The world is much better with you in it.
I’m also raising a second toast (two is my limit being a law abiding citizen) to the unsung heroes of the pharma industry who work tirelessly to help the Sabrinas of the world and inspire people like me to get out of bed every morning to do my small part in helping the pharma companies bring the life saving and joy spreading treatments to the society. The world is much better with them in it too.
Oh, and The Pharmaceutical Companies are evil, greedy, cold-hearted, sneaky, clandestine, and rotten. They don’t care about anything other than the bottom-line. Nothing good ever comes out of the pharma companies. They are responsible for most of what’s wrong with the healthcare of the society.
Of course.
